Ibukun Afolami is a Public Health scientist and lecturer at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Nutrition from Wageningen University, the Netherlands, and an MSc in Biochemistry, with a specialization in Molecular Biology and Cancer. With over 15 years of experience across academia and the development sector, his work bridges research and practice in micronutrient supplementation, food biofortification, and Public Health Nutrition.
He Coordinated Nigeria’s first Randomized Controlled Feeding Trial (RCT) on biofortification in partnership with International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), HarvestPlus International and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), a project which has contributed vital evidence to the nutrition policy landscape in sub-Saharan Africa. Passionate about capacity building, Dr. Afolami has mentored over 100 students and supervised over 30 undergraduates, Master’s, and Ph.D students.
Beyond the laboratory and classroom, he is an accomplished science communicator, using videography and visual storytelling to translate complex science for public understanding. He has produced over 10 science documentaries and consults with institutions to bring research to life through media.
